Staff members at New England Camp Cedarbrook shape the camp experience. NECC staff members are at camp because God has called them away from the routine work of their everyday lives to share with Him the task of forming young people into His likeness. Serving on staff is more than just a summer job.
New England Camp Cedarbrook is dedicated to proclaiming Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and to preparing campers for Christian service. We desire New England Camp Cedarbrook to be a place where people make a lifetime commitment to Christ, and through effective discipleship, develop a disciplined and godly life, demonstrating their commitment through prayer, obedience to God’s Word, attending a local church, and sharing the love of Christ with others.
All Camp Cedarbrook board members and camp workers are to be committed to Christ and His service and seek to manifest the kind of life expressed in Romans 12:10-12.
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer (NIV).
Camp Cedarbrook staff members live passionate lives for Christ and His kingdom. Working at camp is an amazing opportunity to shape the lives of girls, serve God and spend a summer in Christian community amidst God’s beautiful creation. It’s a time to learn, teach, grow, and be a little silly. Where else can you wear funny costumes, act in crazy skits, play massive games of hide and seek, kayak around a lake, and gather around a fire watching the sunset while diving into God’s Word?

Frequently Asked Questions from New Staff
A summer working at camp promises to be challenging but also incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. Staff are often amazed at how God uses and changes them through a summer here. Prepare to be stretched, to experience new things, make new friends and see God’s grace abound.
All staff come to two weeks of pre-camp staff training before the campers arrive. New staff will be oriented to the camp schedule, counseling skills, teaching activities, preparing Bible studies and more.
Most staff members are paid for their work. Some are able to volunteer their services, especially those who work for just a week or two. Staff receive a paycheck every two weeks, and they are also paid for their participation in pre-camp training, since it is mandatory. Contact the camp director for more specific information about the salary for the job you are interested in.
Weather in New England can be unpredictable. Be prepared for some cold nights, hot and muggy days and thunderstorms. If you are coming from far away there are stores nearby where necessities or anything forgotten can be purchased. Camp can provide bedding. Otherwise don’t forget your Bible and a teachable spirit. If you are hired, you will receive a detailed packing list.
If you are coming to the area by plane, please plan to fly into Portland, ME, Manchester, NH or Boston, MA. Let camp know your flight information and someone from camp will be there to pick you up and drive you to camp. Need to carpool? Let camp know and we will try to link you up with someone coming from your area.
If you have a car, and live close enough to drive to Maine, it’s helpful to have for your days off, since not many things are within walking distance to camp. However there are usually many staff members with cars at camp, so you can ride with someone else for days off.
For most staff our day off begins midday on Saturday and ends at lunchtime on Sunday. We encourage staff to rest, attend a local church, hang out with other staff and enjoy the beauty of Maine. Staff are free to spend as much of their day off as they want away from camp or at camp.
At camp we try to match staff with the activities where they are most gifted, experienced and/or excited. During pre-camp training you will have the opportunity to learn more about teaching some of the various activities we offer at camp. You may learn more advanced skills in an activity you already enjoy or may be introduced to something completely new. Toward the end of pre-camp and throughout the summer you have the opportunity to let camp know what activities you are comfortable teaching. Let us know what you are interested in and you may even pioneer a new activity never offered at camp before.
We try to match staff with an age group based upon their skills and interests and the numbers of campers that week. At the end of pre-camp, staff will be notified by their division director which age division they will be serving in their first week. Some staff members work with the same age campers all summer, while other prefer to try different ages.
Camp has wireless internet access for your personal laptop, as well as a computer available to staff for internet access. Computers and cell phones are to be used by staff only during your free time and time off. There is also a pay phone (collect or calling-card calls only) for staff. In emergencies, family can call the main office number. Staff should have regular mail sent to them c/o New England Camp Cedarbrook, PO Box 154, Alfred, ME 04002.
Camp Cedarbrook hires a handful of international staff members each summer through placement agencies which arrange for visas and other necessary travel documentation. International staff members receive the same training and benefits as American staff, except they receive their pocket money at the end of the season.
