In recent years, New England Camp Cedarbrook has faced many challenges. The camp facilities currently require extensive - and expensive - repairs. We have neither the full-time staff nor the finances necessary to operate camp with excellence. In addition, we've had declining enrollment for several years and no camp this past summer. While we've seen many positive steps in the recent years, many challenges remain. The Board of Directors has sought diligently and prayerfully to discern God's leading for the future of New England Camp Cedarbrook. Thank you for praying with us through this process.
As the new board started work in late summer, we evaluated two God-honoring options for our future:
After careful review of these two options over the last couple of months, we have decided to pursue transferring the camp and property. We believe the relaunch option requires capacity and resources which we do not currently possess; therefore, we decided that transferring the property is the best way to steward both the ministry and the vision entrusted to us.
We have already identified several qualified Christian youth camping organizations that are in growth mode. We are now working with them to discover which one is the best fit to take ownership of the property. Each of these organizations is a Christian camp for youth with a strong focus on leadership and outdoor skill development, honoring our heritage in its programming. We are beginning a structured and detailed review process with the organizations we've identified, in anticipation that we will make a transfer of camp in the spring of 2016.
While we are sad that NECC won't continue in its previous format, we are filled with hope and excitement that Christian camping can continue on that hill on a lake in Maine. We look forward with eagerness to see the next chapter that God will unfold here - the story of Christ at work in the lives of children through camping, extending into the next generation!
Each member of the Board serves because of a deep love for NECC. God has used this place and its programming to impact each of us personally for His work. Please feel free to reach out to us with questions, concerns, or insights. Please also pass this information along to others who care about NECC. We regularly check this email address: firstname.lastname@example.org. Our snail mail address remains the same: PO Box 154, Alfred, Maine, 04002.
We continue to desire and appreciate your prayers, particularly for discernment and wisdom, as we make decisions in this crucial period.
